The commercial was awarded a Silver award on the Destinations, region category, a Gold Award in the Tourism Destinations category, and lastly, it was distinguished with the GRAND PRIX AFRICA ITFFA 2021 for outstanding storytelling.

With vibrant images and a strong message, the film reinforces a feeling of unity and hope for a near future when people will be able to experience again all that South Africa has to offer.

The ITFFA, founded in 2019 is an exclusive and unique festival which honours all video content related to the tourism and travel industry. They evaluate TV ads, promotional films, video campaigns, videos for social media, video blogs, documentaries, reports and TV magazines related to the promotion of tourism destinations.

“Competition was fierce this year as Covid-19 made it difficult for many destinations to market what they have to offer – so to be announced winners alongside countries such as Australia, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Malawi, Portugal, Spain, United Kingdom to name a few is what makes this win significant for us says Themba Khumalo, Chief Marketing Officer.

“As an agency of the National Department of Tourism mandated to market South Africa as a tourism destination domestically and internationally, we take pride in producing good work and when it is recognized by our peers in the industry, it brings excitement and fulfilment to all of us”.

The entries were evaluated by an international jury, which brought together renowned professionals from audiovisual production, marketing, and tourism fields.

“The GRAND PRIX AFRICA ITFFA 2021 award is a great distinction, which reflects the successful opening of South African to tourism during the pandemic. It is an addition to the achievements and globally acclaimed accolades of how the South African government and citizens have managed the destination through the pandemic,” concludes Khumalo.

The two-day ITFFA 2021 festival kicked off with a series of educational and thought-provoking Masterclasses at the V&A Waterfront on Thursday 27 May, facilitated by noteworthy industry experts and top content creators.

In addition to the closing ceremony, the festival program included an insightful master class hosted by FC Hamman, Senzelwe Mthembu, Neo Mokuene and Refiloe Chakela-Gava, dedicated to tourism promotion through video.
